A brief introduction...
It is now the accepted opinion that Alan Mathison Turing, the English mathematician and creator of the first computer, laid the foundation for research into AI.
In 1935, Turing wrote about a hypothetical, abstract computer that had a combined memory/scanner that could read, create and then write new symbols as it proceeded. A programme of instructions, now in the memory, controlled the behaviour of the scanner.
This was Turing’s concept of a stored-program, and it implicitly allows for the prospect of the machine running its own data and possibly altering and improving it in real time.
It was in 1947 that Alan Turing was believed to have held a public lecture during which he mentioned the idea of an intelligent computer. He stated that the goal was to develop a computer that could learn from its mistakes and to alter its own instructions without human intervention.
Many of the fundamental ideas of AI were first presented by him in a report entitled “Intelligent Machinery” in 1948. However, this paper was not published and other experts later used and then developed many of his concepts.
Applications of artificial intelligence.
Artificial intelligence has come a long way since its inception in the late 1940s and early 1950s.
Initially, research focused on developing machines that could recognize images and understand basic language, but breakthroughs in computer power and algorithms over the decades have allowed AI to become incredibly advanced.
Some of the most significant developments to date include machine learning, deep learning networks and natural language processing – technologies that enable machines to solve increasingly complex problems and decide autonomously.
AI is now being used for everything from predictive analytics to voice recognition, thanks in part to the rapid advances made in computer science, mathematics and engineering– all working together to create a smarter future.
The major types of artificial intelligence
Artificial Intelligence is a booming field of technology that encompasses a variety of approaches to creating intelligent behavior in machines.
AI has several types, such as Machine Learning, Natural Language Processing, Computer Vision, and Robotics.
With Machine Learning algorithms, computers can process data and gain predictive power by learning from its past computations.
Natural Language Processing enables machines to understand human language and carry out tasks such as responding to queries or speaking aloud.
Computer Vision helps machines interpret visual information like images and videos using structured algorithms to make sense of the data they view.
And finally, Robotics enables the building of artificial agents that can sense their environment and perform physical actions in response to it.
Each type of AI allows for different levels of machine intelligence, but when used together, they can allow for much more powerful applications than any one technique could do independently.
